We conduct our trainings within a challenging, but friendly environment and welcome students of any age. We currently have two locations within Wellington, and two others being planned. The Art of Aikido Developed by O Sensei, Morihei Ueshiba (1883 - 1969) as an efficient and extremely effective Japanese martial art, Aikido exploits the natural turning motions of joints to throw, immobilise or pin an opponent. Utilising these circular movements the defender uses the opponents own force to control the attack. Emphasis is on a non-violent resolution to physical conflict. The fundamental principles of Aikido is to evade, redirect or neutralise an attack with movements that are flexible and rational. The practice of Aikido should coordinate the mind, body and spirit, and has the added benefits of increasing awareness, improving fitness and flexibility. |
